The city’s claim to fame is the Farum Brigantium, a lighthouse built by the Romans in the 2nd century and dedicated to the god of war, Mars. Known today as the Tower of Hercules, it’s the world’s only fully operational Roman lighthouse and the city’s most emblematic building.

We really had an amazing day with Adrian McManus. He took us on an afternoon’s tour of A Coruña in September 2016. We looked at the architecture and fascinating modernista buildings around Praza Lugo and then inside the Mercado. We had a general overview of the city, walking through some of the main streets and prazas on our way to the old city around Praza da Constituciòn. A stop in a traditional wine bar, some perfect Jamon Iberico and then for a special tasting lunch in one of the cities finest restaurants.
Adrian’s knowledge of A Coruña and Spain is formidable. His knowledge of the gastronomy and wines of Spain are encyclopaedic. He is well-known in the city, speaks fluent Spanish and Galician and provided us with an insight into this fascinating city which most certainly we not have gained in any other way. Adrian is a native English speaker and is incredibly well informed on the arts, history, current affairs and politics.
We could not have made a better choice for a fascinating visit to A Coruña.
Many thanks.
